Vision Statement
I’ve read a lot of church mission statements, purpose statements and vision statements over the last year. It’s kind of like required reading for church planting. A lot of vision statements go something like this…
I dream of a place where people can come and experience…
I see a church where Christians can worship God and where the unchurched can reconnect…
I dream of a church where the community can participate and where Christians can…
The verbs are CAN. Let’s create a church that has the potential to impact or the ability to reach people. People might come, if they think it’s worth it. Create an experience where people could show up.
I want to launch a church where people WILL come. There’s no doubt about it, because the bar is raised. The value is there. It’s useful, helpful, inspiring, and people don’t just have the option of showing up, they WILL show up.
I’m convinced that when the church is the church, when things are done with excellence and relevance, and when a church is authentic and real, people can’t stay away. It’s irresistable. I don’t just want Oak Leaf to be an environment where people can come and bring their friends. I want Oak Leaf to be the place where people WILL come and bring their friends.
